The ongoing conflict between Iran and United States is sending shockwaves across the Middle East, and Ukraine is trying to turn the situation to its advantage. President Volodymyr Zelensky has said Kyiv is willing to share its expertise in defending against Iranian-style drones with Middle Eastern partners in exchange for financial support and advanced technology.

Here’s what this means:

1. Battlefield expertise becomes a tradable asset
Ukraine has faced tens of thousands of drone attacks from Russia, including Iranian-designed drones. That know-how is now valuable to countries in the Middle East dealing with similar threats.

2. Financial support helps sustain Ukraine
By asking for money, Ukraine signals that it needs resources to keep its defence industry and military operations running. This ensures it can continue its own war efforts while assisting others.

3. Technology access strengthens capabilities
Kyiv is seeking modern air defence systems and other advanced technology it currently lacks. These could improve Ukraine’s military readiness and reduce dependence on external suppliers.

4. New alliances expand influence
Helping Gulf states and the US in this conflict could broaden Ukraine’s global diplomatic footprint. Offering expertise in exchange for support positions Kyiv as a proactive player, not just a recipient of aid.

5. Risks and strategic positioning
Iran has reacted angrily, even threatening Ukraine as a “legitimate target.” Despite the risk, Ukraine is using this moment to negotiate support, turning battlefield experience into both resources and leverage.

Editorial note:
The Iran–US conflict is ongoing, and Ukraine is finding ways to gain from it. By trading its drone defence expertise for money, technology, and strategic influence, Kyiv is transforming hard-earned experience into practical benefits on the global stage.
